Rue McClanahan dies at 76

rue, you will be missed

From the New York Daily News: Rue McClanahan, the sassy, man-hungry Blanche Deveraux from the Golden Girls, has passed away. She was 76 years old. McClanahan suffered a massive stroke and died on Thursday, her manager stated. She was with family and in peace.

McClanahan, who won a emmy for her Golden Girls role, is the third cast member to have passed on. Last year, actress Bea Arthur (Dorothy) died from cancer, while Estelle Getty (Sophia) passed away in 2008. Betty White remains as the only surviving actor from the show.

McClanahan’s other credits include Maude and Mama’s Family. She has been married six times, and is survived by her son from her first marriage.

This is a very sad day indeed. With the resurgence of Betty White’s career, I was hoping the same would happen for Rue, but unfortunately that is not meant to be.

Please post your thoughts and your favorite Blanche/Vivian moments in honor of Rue. You will be missed.
