Update: Perez Hilton Loses Advertiser Over Recent Photo

17 Jun

There may not be any legal action, but one company that advertises on Perez Hilton’s blog is not standing in silence. The ABC network has pulled its ad for The View on the Gossip Specialists blog, which calls into question of whether or not other advertisers will follow suit. The withdrawal stems from a controversial photo Hilton posted on his Twitter, which allegedly exposed Miley Cyrus as she was exiting a vehicle.

“It’s not a matter of whether you like [Perez Hilton] or not, it has to do with the morality of the issue. Miley is a minor, period. There are ethics involved in running an ad on a site that potentially violated the rights of a minor, and that is what the conversation is about at the network level,” stated a source to MSNBC.

Hilton responded in a statement to Entertainment Weekly, saying “I find it odd that an advertiser would choose to pull an ad off my site because the photo in question, which was not pornographic and showed a fully clothed Miley Cyrus, was not posted on my website or even linked from my site. I look forward to addressing this and all of the inaccuracies about me being perpetuated when I appear on Joy Behar’s HLN show [Thursday night].”

Previous reports stated MTV had pulled ads for TVLand off the site; however those have proven to be untrue.

What do you think? Should more companies stop advertising?
