Robin Williams as the New Riddler?

Facebook fans, get ready. It looks like you might have to create another campaign.

While browsing through the various blogs and news, I came across this from Showbiz Spy: Robin Williams wants to be the Riddler in the next Batman film, the role made famous by Frank Gorshin in the campy 60’s Batman series, and later was played by Jim Carrey in Joel Schumacher’s Batman Forever.

“I would do Batman in a second,” said Williams. “I’d play The Riddler in the next one, although it would be hard to top Heath Ledger as the villain and I’m a little hairy for tights.”

It also appears that Williams would need all the help he can get for this, since his track record has not been that great when it comes to the caped crusader movies. He had been offered the Joker and Riddler roles, but was overlooked both times. (In the case of the Joker I can understand. Can you possibly picture anyone else but Jack Nicholson?)

This is something I can definitely picture him in. Williams has gone the dark route before in One Hour Photo and Insomnia, so I don’t doubt his ability at all. The only problem I can see is if director Christopher Nolan can’t keep Williams’ urge for camp in check, then it could destroy the tone he has so carefully set. Plus, with Heath Ledgers amazing turn as the Joker still on peoples’ minds, Williams would have to do all he can to keep the criticism down. All in all, I think he can do it.

What do you think? Would Williams make a good Riddler?
