Bill O’Reilly is mad. That may not really be news, since that tends to happen a lot, but this time US Weekly reports that O’Reilly has found a new foe, this time in former Friends star Jennifer Aniston.
At a recent press conference, Jennifer Aniston made the following statement: “Women are realizing it more and more knowing that they don’t have to settle with a man just to have that child. Times have changed and that is also what is amazing is that we do have so many options these days, as opposed to our parents’ days when you can’t have children because you have waited too long.”
That statement just didn’t sit too well with O’Reilly, who replied via his Fox News Show, “She’s throwing a message out to 12-year-olds and 13-year-olds that, ‘Hey you don’t need a guy. You don’t need a dad.'” “That is destructive to our society.”
I think O’Reilly missed the boat on this one (which in my opinion, happens a lot, but I won’t go there. Or did I?) I don’t think Aniston was downplaying the importance of fathers, or for that matter, children having two parents, but was instead commenting on the notion that women don’t have to wait to get married in order to have children. If the woman is able and determined, then there are more choices available, as opposed to the past.
I have to agree with Aniston on this one. If a woman feels she is ready, she shouldn’t have to force herself to get in a relationship with someone for the sake of having a baby. If you have that love inside of you now, and are ready to take on the responsibility, then go for it. Besides, just because someone has two parents doesn’t automatically make the situation ideal. There are plenty of wonderful single-parents out there, as well as many couples. It all boils down to how much love and nurturing you give your child. In the end, that’s all that matters.
Who do you agree with?
