According to TVGuide, Fox has announced that the long running Sunday night staple The Simpsons has been renewed for a 23rd season.
“Like many 22-year-olds, The Simpsons is extremely happy remaining at home, on FOX, and hopes it doesn’t have to go out into the real world for many years to come,” executive producer Al Jean stated.
The Simpsons is already in the history books as the longest animated prime-time series, and can also boast having the most guest stars on featured in a television series.
I’ll admit, I haven’t been the most faithful watcher these past few seasons, but I was once a die-hard Simpsons fan and really can’t picture Sunday on Fox without it. It’s a true pop-culture icon, and if it had not been such a hit, shows like Family Guy and South Park might never have existed. Too bad it couldn’t help a show like The Critic. But oh well, you can’t win them all.
