Whatever’s On Recap: American Idol Elimination, 4-14-2011

Well here we are at the first elimination after Pia. Okay, enough of that. Gotta move on. Tonight, after a semi-lackluster night of movie songs, another hopeful gets sent home. Is it a shocker once again? Read on to find out.

Wow, 53 million votes. I wonder who everyone voted for. Tonight, instead of a group number the contestants are split up like they were a couple of weeks ago. I hope they stick to this format, since it seems to work so much better than everyone all at once.

Whatever’s on TV Recap : American Idol, Top 11 Perform Again

Who performed the best?

Here we go again “American Idol” fans; a new week, a new set of songs. This week the top 11 perform to living legend Elton John, who has a distinctive flavor that usually only he can produce. I’m worried the the contestants might not be able to even come close to matching that, or worse yet, choose to sing “Circle of Life.” Don’t get me wrong, I love “The Lion King,” but even I would have to admit that if anyone even attempted it, it would go beyond the dreaded Karaoke label. So how did everyone do? Read on to find out.

Whatever’s On TV Recap: American Idol

Another night, another hopeful that might go home. Naturally, things start out with the group number. Oh my, a mash-up of “Born to Be Wild” and Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way.” This was actually an inspired idea, but the execution, like most of the group numbers, was lacking in the majority of the perfromance. American Idol Announces New Judges (Well, Offically)

It’s finally official. After many speculations, rumors, and reportedly big salary agreements, the judges table for American Idol has finally been set. According to TVGuide, joining returning judge Randy Jackson will be Jennifer Lopez and Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler.

Other changes: the show will hold it’s first ever online auditions via MySpace, the new age limit will be 15, and executive producer Nigel Lythgoe (So You Think You Can Dance) will return.

The new judges have a lot to prove. Reactions were mixed after Kara DioGuardi joined the ranks, and remained so when Ellen DeGeneres came on board after Paula Abdul left. In addition, Idol has seen a decline in ratings over the past few years, with last seasons finale drawing the lowest audience since the first season. The return to the three judge panel might help, however J-Lo, someone who I do feel is talented, tends to get bashed no matter what she does. Tyler, on the other hand is a legend, but has to deal with his bandmates, who are not very happy with him joining the show.

Adam Lambert Accused of Battery

According to TMZ, former American Idol contestant Adam Lambert has been accused of battery by a paparazzi who tried to take photos of the singer on the beach in Miami. According to the police report, Lambert allegedly grabbed the bag where the camera was said to be placed and wrestled the man to the ground.

The thing is, photos on the scene show that the camera is clearly in the photographers hand. So someone is lying, and it doesn’t seem to be Lambert.

J-Lo Allegedly Gets Big Payday to Join American Idol

Article first published as J-Lo Reportedly Seals Amercian Idol Deal on Blogcritics.

Actress/singer Jennifer Lopez, who was out of the running a month ago, is now back in as a future judge on American Idol, People reports. This comes two weeks after judge Kara DioGuardi reported her plans to leave, following similar decisions by both Ellen DeGeneres and Simon Cowell. Randy Jackson remains the only original judge left at popular singing compeition.

“She’s very excited,” a source close to Lopez told the magazine. FOX has yet to comment. The price tag to have Lopez critique future hopefuls: 12 million dollars.

Lopez reportedly had hoped to score some movie and television deals in addition to a larger salary; however those conditions fell through.

J-Lo is not the only celebrity to have seemingly reached a deal. Steven Tyler of Aerosmith fame may round out the judges’ table, although no official word has been given. Shania Twain, Harry Connick Jr., Elton John, and Chris Isaak were also rumored to be in consideration as well.

Brett Michael’s on Idol?

Something interesting I found on 60 percent of people polled believe Bret Michaels should replace Simon Cowell on American Idol. Now, I like Brett, and I’m not ashamed to admit that I was a big Poison fan back in the day, but I’m not sure this is a good idea. In the past few months, Michaels has suffered from appendicitis, a brain hemorrhage, and a stroke. I think some higher power might be trying to tell him something. I don’t doubt he has plenty of advice to offer. He’s been a performer for nearly two decades, and can offer words on music and performance. But he does have children to think about, and I think they need him more than Idol does. However, I do shudder to think of the alternatives.

What do you think?
