Top 10 TV Moments of 2010

As another wonderful year comes to a close and everyone busts out their top ten lists, I figured why not join the fun and create one of my own. It was a grueling process, but I was finally able to narrow down my ten favorite moments of the past year. Instead of just naming shows, I decided to combine characters, storylines, and anything else that caught my eye. Did any of your top moments make it? Well read on to find out.

Changes to So You Think You Can Dance: My Take

image

Just found a recent article on TVGuide that mentioned a few new changes to one of my favorite (if not THE favorite) reality programs, So You Think You Can Dance. If you remember, last year, the show played with the format and dropped the top 20 to just 10 (well, 11 if you count Billy, which I most certainly do), and then brought in all-stars from past seasons to partner them with. I was skeptical of the change, but I will admit, sometimes it worked. Remember Kent and Neil’s routine by Travis Wall? I bet you do.

Third Injury on So You Think You Can Dance

photo:fox

If it wasn’t bad enough having to be in the bottom three several times, now he has this to deal with. Last night on So You Think You Can Dance, it was announced that Billy Bell, the technically dazzling contemporary dancer who until recently had trouble connecting with the audience, suffered an injury to his knee. As Nigel stated, doctors cleared Billy to dance, but only if he felt up to it. He didn’t, so he was forced to sit out his two numbers, which would have included being in the first step routine with Kent.

This is the third injury to occur in the past three weeks. The first removed front runner Alex Wong, who suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon, and then by Ashley Galvan after injuring her ribs.

Although the past two had to leave, it appears Billy’s might not be as serious. That means that if he is able to still perform, he has a chance of remaining in the competition.

What do you think? Do you think Billy should stay?

‘So You Think You Can Dance’ Changes Christina Perri’s Life

Here’s another reason why I love So You Think You Can Dance: it can change more than a dancer’s life.

A couple of weeks ago, choreographer Stacey Tookey used a little known song called “Jar of Hearts” for a contemporary routine featuring Billy Bell and Kathryn McCormick. The song, according to Yahoo’s Reality Rocks blog, was by Christina Perri, a struggling L.A. Artist who was waiting tables at the Melrose Place Cafe.

Somehow her demo made it’s way to Tookey, and suddenly Perri was thrust into the spotlight and has become an instant sensation, hitting number 13 on iTunes, number 23 on the Billboard Hot Digital Songs chart, number 58 on the Billboard Hot 100, number 54 on Canada’s single chart, number 10 on Amazon’s digital singles chart, and number 2 on Billboard’s Heatseekers countdown, and has sold more than 100,000 copies. Here is the most amazing thing: she did this all without a record deal.

As a thank you, Perri agreed to perform the week after on the results show.

Now that is one amazing story. I’ve always loved some of the music the choreographers use (Elisa’s “Dancing” still gives me chills.) and it’s great to hear someone get recognized in such an unusual way. Take a look below and share your thoughts.

Another So You Think You Can Dance Injury

ashley galvan

And I thought Dancing With the Stars was the most dangerous show on T.V.

Last night, Cat Deely announced on So You Think You Can Dance that another contestant was sidelined from performing. Ashley Galvan suffered pains in her rib cage prior to Wednesday’s show, and was forced to sit out the her performances with all-star Pasha and contestant Robert. Much like previous hopeful Alex Wong, Ashley will have to be placed in the bottom three and face the judges. She might still get a pass depending on what the doctors say, however according to what Nigel Lythgoe told the audience, anyone with an injury two weeks in a row will automatically be sent home. Galvan was one of two remaining females left to compete.

Hopefully she will be okay and not have to drop out of the show like Alex did. By the way, was anyone else’s heart breaking when you saw him in the hospital bed? What do you think?

So You Think You Can Dance: Alex Wong Injured

photo:fox

According to TVGuide (which spoiled it for me, since I haven’t seen the episode yet, so don’t read if you haven’t either) So You Think You Can Dance front runner Alex Wong injured himself during rehearsal with his partner Adechike Torbert, and will see a doctor prior to today’s episode to see if he can continue. Since he was unable to perform, this will automatically place him in the bottom three (though unless the injury is very serious, I don’t see him going home.)

Wong auditioned last year, but could not be released from his prior contract. He auditioned again this season, and quickly became a top contender. He recently performed a memorable hip-hop routine with all star Twitch.

I hope he is okay. I really loved his routines, and posted that I felt his dance with Twitch was one of the best in the shows history. Even if he does have to drop out, I really don’t think this is the end of the road for him.

Are you sad to hear the news?

Alex Wong and Twitch: The Best So You Think You Can Dance Hip Hop Routine Ever!!!

photo:fox

This is by far and away why I love So You Think You Can Dance. Last night, ballet dancer Alex Wong pulled Twitch’s name from a hat, and after a little confusion, danced one of the most entertaining, surprising, and overall killer hip hop routine ever to grace their stage. The whole point of the show is to challenge people who excel in one area, and see if they can shine in a different style. Alex showed that ballet dancers, who sometimes can be typecast, can get down with the best of them.

The routine, by Tabitha and Napolean (known as NappyTabs) was sheer genius: Twitch as a therapist, and Alex as his patient, who is suffering from a big case of not being able to get out of his own style. Once the session got underway, the audience went crazy, and solidified Alex as a top contender. Have a look and comment your thoughts.
