Adam Lambert booked for Leno

I think The Tonight Show with Jay Leno finally found a way for me to watch, at least for one night: Leno Books Adam Lambert and Others for Tonight Show Return.

If you remember, Lambert (who many thought should have won last seasons Idol, but we won’t get into that here) created quite a stir for his racy AMA performance, and for later being dropped by Good Morning America. Bringing in anyone with controversy is always a plus, and this will also appeal to the younger audience that normally would pass up Leno for Conan (sorry, I just had to mention that). Unfortunately, after that night, I probably won’t watch again, just like I assume others will tune out as well.

New NBC Tonight Show with Jay Leno Promos

For those that haven’t seen them yet, or missed the night they premiered at the Olympics, here are the two new promos for the Tonight Show with Jay Leno, set to premiere March 1st.

Team Leno vs. Team Coco

I’ve decided that my brain has gone into too much overload with all this, and will not be posting any new information for a while (if you haven’t already noticed).

Leno’s side of the story

On a previous post, I wrote that I was going to wait and see what Jay Leno had to say before making any judgments against him, unlike many others out there, and while browsing through the T.V. news on Yahoo came across this: Leno: Don’t Blame Conan (or Me).

According to the article, Leno asked to be let out of his contract twice, and had told NBC executives that moving him to the 10 o’clock slot was a very bad idea. Leno also states that NBC had misled him into thinking that the move back to his old time slot was agreed upon by all, including Conan. O’Brien had rejected the plan a week earlier, and has been negotiating with NBC on a proper settlement amount (with some sources citing as much as 30 million).

I’m not sure what to think on this. On one hand, it could just be damage control. On the other, it wouldn’t surprise me one bit for it to all be NBC’s fault. They have not done the best when it comes to managing their programming lately, and this kind of blunder would fit in with their already souring reputation. But before I scream conspiracy or cover-up, I’m gonna get myself a little bit more informed. Although, as I have said before and I’ll say again, I still feel that Conan was the one who ultimately got the most unfair treatment, and deserves as much money as he can get.

Team Conan or Leno: Stars weigh in

Just to show how crazy this is getting, take a look at some of the stuff celebrities are saying:

Rosie O’Donnell
“Five years ago, [Leno] was told that Conan was going to get the driver’s seat. He had a lot of time to prepare to do something else, and if he felt he still had the goods, he should have been a man and went over to FOX and competed with him directly rather than put himself on at 10 o’clock and really ruin Conan’s chances to begin with. I just think it is an incredibly selfish move and I am Team Conan.”

Patton Oswalt
“Comedians who don’t like Jay Leno now — and I’m one of them — we’re not like, ‘Oh my God, Jay Leno sucks.’ It’s that we’re so hurt and disappointed that one of the best comedians of our generation…willfully shut that switch off. …You almost want to take [Leno] aside and ask him, ‘Why do you want this so badly? Because you don’t do anything with it.'”

Jerry Seinfeld
“I think [The Jay Leno Show] was the right idea at the wrong time, and it was not a bad idea.”

Howard Stern
“It’s finally dawned on Conan that Jay Leno had it in for him the whole time. Crapped all over him. … [Leno] is an evil devil. He’s a horrible, horrible guy. I’ve told you this for years. … And everybody hates Jay now — which is great. I’m all for hating Jay.”

And if you haven’t already, take a look at this youtube video of Jimmy Kimmel as Jay Leno,

You know, Leno is being made out to be quite the villain in all this. I wonder how much of it is true. I never thought of him like that before, and am not sure how I feel now. I guess I will have to look at his side first before I really make a decision. But I will agree, Conan was getting the raw end of the deal.

Conan Moves On

Here’s an interesting development in the NBC late night debacle, courtesy of Variety: Conan O’Brien set to exit Tonight Show.

Though details have not been revealed, O’Brien could see anywhere from 30 to 40 million dollars, and would be able to create a new late night program on another network. If all this is true, I wonder who the real winner is, huh NBC.
